Sweetish Hill Bakery was born in 1975 on “Swede Hill,” at the corner of 14th and Waller Streets in East Austin, Texas. After a fire, it relocated to what is now Clark’s Oyster Bar space on West Sixth Street and Blanco. In 1991 it moved down the block where it continued to operate for almost three decades. In 2019, MML Hospitality re-envisioned and relaunched Sweetish as Swedish Hill Bakery, Café, and Deli. It closed in Winter 2023 to make room for the Sixth&Blanco development, also by MML. In May 2024, MML Hospitality opened its first Swedish Hill Café location outside of Austin - at the Aspen Art Museum. The cafe, located on the top floor of the museum, features indoor cafe seating as well as an expansive open-air rooftop patio with views of Ajax Mountain. Swedish Hill Aspen will serve the same coffee, pastries, salads, and sandwiches it’s become known for, as well as unique soups, pastas and other specials ideal during a museum visit or as a destination-worthy breakfast and lunch spot. An expanded menu of cocktails, wine, and beer will also be offered as well.
